Blantyre, Malawi – A film by musician-filmmaker Kendall Kamwendo, one half of the Symon and Kendall duo, and directed by Bester Kauwa, had its long-anticipated premiere at the Golden Peacock in Blantyre on Friday.
Titled “School Days,” the film is inspired by a true story and dedicated to all families who have lost loved ones due to teasing and bullying. Following its debut, the film has received a range of reviews, with some viewers applauding it as “a great and educational movie,” while others pointed out certain flaws.
Favour Kuyenda, a resident of Chilomoni, expressed her delight, saying, “I am impressed and have enjoyed the film. The beauty of it is that the story resonates with what many of us experienced in secondary school. For me, everything was on point, from the picture and sound.”
Kuyenda commended the actors for their creativity and praised the film’s storyline. However, not all viewers shared the same sentiment.
Gilbert Zgambo, a movie enthusiast, acknowledged “School Days” as a beautiful story but noted a lack of stability in storytelling. He suggested that some scenes could have been omitted for better flow.

TEAMTUNES MALAWI
Kiswell Tembo, another movie fan, highlighted the investment in the film but pointed out fragmented scenes that needed better organization. He also emphasized the importance of promptness in event organization.
The film, which revisits the harsh experiences faced by secondary school students at the hands of their seniors, premiered in Lilongwe before screening in Blantyre.
Director Bester Kauwa expressed his satisfaction with the Blantyre screening despite facing several challenges. He stated, “Seeing this movie today makes me happy, and this is proof that the Malawi movie industry can do better. We are thankful for the feedback, and it will keep us going.”
Kauwa extended his gratitude to the audience for their support during the screening of “School Days.”
Apart from Kendall Kamwendo, the film features talented actors such as Rudo Mkukupa Chakwera, Tumpe Mtaya, Yvonne Chanache, Amos Filisa, and Blessed Chimombo.
